A long awaited dream became reality on the night of november 10th 1967, as the tigers defeated Piqua Catholic to claim the class A state title.

Make no mistake about it, Versailles is a football town.The Tigers had some outstanding teams leading up to this 67 team.The title of being the best in the state was long overdue to the fans and the team.These Tigers werent the biggest constantly being outsized,but as with all Tiger teams heart and determination, brought them through undefeated.

There were many reasons for the success,Many said the coach was the best in the state.Coach Lantz must have been one of the top coaches as he was named coach of the year,for the state.He didn't do it alone, he had a couple great asst. coaches to help him out. Guys like Ralph Francis,and Al Hetrick.

The Players who refused to lose, Guys like (center)Jeff Blickenstaff,(guards)Dave Simmons,Bill Young and Phil Schmitt (tackles) Mike Gavit,Bill Roll and Jim Peoppelman (ends)Ed Spraley,Ron Mescher and Ron schlater (backs)Bob Schieltz,Rick Frantz,Tom Brandon and Bob Frantz (QB)Kevin Peoppelman. DEFENSE(MG)Simmons (Tackles) Spraley,Blickenstaff,and Gavit(Ends)Dan Buxton,and Schlater(LB)Schieltz,Brandon,Bill Alexander,and Young(secondary) R.Frantz,K.Peoppelman,and R.Mescher. These guys really sold out to live the dream of a championship season. With 6 making all league they had some talent along with the desire. Guys on the all league team were(R.Mescher,R.Frantz,and K.Peoppelman on OFFENSE,And on defense,R.Schlater,B.Schieltz,and E.Spraley.
